Mark Twain Literary Terms

  1. Narrator - the voice telling the story
  2. Point of View - the perspective from which the narrator tells the events
  3. Third Person Point of View  - the narrator is an outside voice
  4. Omniscient - all knowing, to know about all the characters thoughts and feelings
  5. Irony -  a special kind of contrast in which reality is the opposite of what it seems
  6. Dramatic Irony - the narrator reveals something that the story character does not know
  7. Style - how a work is written, how something is said
  8. Humorous Tone - an amused attitude toward a subject

Writing and Quoting the Source

This is for use with your Common Core Writing from Sources workbook.
When you are writing from sources, you must say the title of the source and/or the author and put the information in quotation marks.  

Examples:

In the article Volcanic Soils, the author stated that "Mount Vesuvius experienced two major eruptions more than 10,000 years ago."

The author Russell McDanaugh wrote, "Once volcanic soils have been broken down, they enrich the soil by adding important nutrients from plants."  

"The Kau Scenic Byway offers by far the longest stretches of unspoiled natural scenery," as stated in the article On the Slopes of Muana Loa, Hawaii Islands.

     Keep these one one sheet of paper and turn in on Friday
  • Monday - make four lists of ten things each that are green, then pink then black, then your choice. 
  • Tuesday - make four lists: songs you like, movies you like, poems you like, your choice
  • Wednesday - make four lists: new hobbies, sports, activities, your choice, that you would like to try
  • Thursday - make four lists: special places, special times, special friends, your choice
  • Friday -make four lists: winter, spring, summer, fall and list 10 items in each  that you really like
